This year the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF) has added a new category to its prestigious MEFFYs Awards; Sustainability. The MEF Sustainability Award will honour those, within the Mobile Ecosystem, who have made sustainability an integral part of their business activities.

This award is launching in tandem with MEF’s Climate Guide for SME’s.  The Climate Guide will be launched at the MEF Global Forum on Sustainability taking place on Sunday 26th February during Mobile World Congress Barcelona. (see: https://mobileecosystemforum.com/events_/mef-global-forum/)

“Sustainability is no longer a ‘nice to have’, it is essential that every company does what it can to mitigate climate change, and ICT companies can not only be more environmentally friendly themselves, they can also help other businesses to reduce their impact though a variety of technology solutions. The Climate Guide gives us a snapshot of where we are now, where we need to be and how the ICT industry can get there. It’s a first for MEF, and we hope it will have a measurable impact for our Members” said Dario Betti, CEO of MEF.

“Our climate is changing rapidly, and all companies (large and small) must contribute to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Like so many other industries, our Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector is polluting. However, the sector is also in a unique position to help other industries reduce their emissions via new ICT products and services. The MEF award aims to showcase and celebrate great sustainability initiatives, which will motivate other MEF members and consumers to take action” said Gerrit Jan Konijnenberg initiator of the MEF Sustainability activities.

The first ever MEF Sustainability Award will be awarded to a MEF Member organization that launched or completed a sustainability initiative, ICT product or ICT service (or a combination of such) within the last 12 months. The activity must meet the following criteria: contributed directly or indirectly to CO2 emission reductions; launched in 2022; contributed to the NetZero 2030 targets; is- or can be expanded cross border; and will inspire other companies and consumers, to change their behaviors.

“The ICT industry has to take sustainability seriously, and some companies are already making a real difference. We want to applaud those companies and showcase what they have achieved, partly to celebrate them, and partly to inspire other businesses to follow suite. We hope this new MEF Sustainability Award will do just that.” said Gerrit Jan Konijnenberg of MEF.

All nominations are 100% confidential and should be emailed to MEFFYS@mobileecosystemforum.com. Each nomination should be submitted via a PowerPoint presentation of max 10 slides. The entry should: explain the initiative/product/service; provide evidence of Scope 1/2/3 impact; list the countries where the sustainability activity was launched; quantify the reach and impact of the initiative so far; detail -if any- the media campaigns used to support the initiatives.

The nomination deadline is Wednesday February 22nd at 23.59 GMT.

A panel of four prestigious Judges will choose the overall winner.

The judges are:

Gerrit Jan Konijnenberg, MEF Special Adviser
